At Fertilidad Integral, we go beyond the medical procedures—we care for the whole person. That’s why we take pride in offering a multidimensional approach to fertility care. In addition to addressing every medical detail with precision, we prioritize each patient’s physical and emotional well-being.
This is the foundation of our Wellness Team, a group of professionals including psychologists, nutritionists, acupuncturists, and massage therapists. We understand that fertility challenges affect not only the body but also the mind and emotional health.
Together with mental health professionals, we provide specialized support to help patients face uncertainty, grief, complex decisions, and relationship challenges—always with the goal of protecting mental health throughout the process.
What does a reproductive health psychologist do?
A psychologist specialized in reproductive health supports individuals and couples through the different phases and challenges of their family-building journey. Their role includes offering emotional support through infertility diagnoses, assisted reproduction treatments, pregnancy loss, and complex medical decisions.
They also provide tools to manage expectations, stress, anxiety, grief, and the emotional impact these experiences can have on self-esteem, relationships, and everyday life. Their ultimate goal is to protect mental health, promote emotional well-being, and make the entire process more conscious, supported, and sustainable.
What is a therapy session like?
Before treatment
I like to begin each session with a warm welcome, making sure patients feel safe and comfortable. I remind them that whatever they bring is welcome—this space is for them and created with them in mind.
Each person arrives with different needs: some are seeking emotional support, others simply want to feel seen and heard. Some may need guidance in making tough decisions, while others are looking for specific tools to navigate the process.
A common theme in therapy is the feeling of loneliness and fear that often accompanies fertility challenges. Unfortunately, these topics are still surrounded by stigma, and many people feel they have no one to talk to.
In therapy, we work to normalize and validate all feelings that arise, so patients feel genuinely seen, supported, and emotionally held throughout their experience.
During treatment
When lab results arrive or embryo transfers take place, I offer practical tools such as breathing techniques to ease anticipated discomfort, exercises to manage anxiety before important calls, and safe emotional spaces to express frustration, hope, or anything in between.
This type of support strengthens treatment adherence and turns the process into a more manageable and emotionally supportive experience.
After treatment
If the news is positive, I help prepare for the transition into pregnancy and postpartum, supporting the couple through the emotional and hormonal rollercoaster that often follows birth. This kind of guidance reduces the risk of perinatal depression by encouraging early help-seeking behaviors and building a strong support network (APA, 2020).
If the cycle does not result in pregnancy, I provide grief counseling that honors each patient’s emotions and future decisions—always considering their unique needs and desires.
A fertility therapist provides holistic support that bridges mind and body, science and empathy.
At Fertilidad Integral, our multidisciplinary team is ready to support you at every stage of your journey. Our therapists are highly trained and here to walk beside you—so you always feel fully supported.
